Pro Life is a debate which is currently relatively low key in the UK, especially when compared to the US. In America it is publicly known where each politician stands, and questions are frequently asked about the views of public figures.
There are undoubtedly many elements to the US conversation which are not always positive, but the conversation does exist none the less.
In the UK we seem far more reluctant to have the discussion in public. To suggest a definitive viewpoint on the issue is far too often seen as arrogant, restrictive and controlling of others. I have often been met with raised eyebrows in the past when I have tackled the issue in educational settings, it is too rare a things that someone would dare to suggest a forthright opinion. As a reaction to this we have become increasingly permissive and tolerant, unable to object to others point's of view for fear of being seen as militant or anti woman, stuck in the dark ages. It is clearly a challenge to strike the balance between uncompromisingly pro-life, and uncompromisingly demonstrating love to to all those who feel they face the choice, but it is a balance we must not be afraid to find.
I hope this blog's existence will help frame a discussion in some people's minds, and provide a safe place for the discussion to take place.
Having said that the UK discussion is so often low key, one group who I have found to be nationally active and a very helpful voice have been the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child, SPUC. Please visit their website for more details on what they are currently involved in.
